Recycling: How to take advantage of recycling resources in Centre County
Happy New Year! As we head into 2026, I’d like to highlight the valuable programs available through the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority (CCRRA) and remind residents to take advantage of the many resources we proudly offer.
CCRRA serves as a trusted recycling and refuse resource for residents, municipalities and businesses throughout Centre County. Our mission is simple: to provide convenient, responsible recycling and refuse services while helping our community reduce waste and protect the environment. Whether you are an experienced recycler or just getting started, CCRRA has programs and tools to support you.
One of our most visible services is curbside recycling, which is available to more than 28,000 households across the county. Residents can recycle common materials such as paper, corrugated cardboard, aluminum and steel cans, glass bottles and jars, and plastic bottles, jugs, and jars. If you’re unsure how to recycle properly, CCRRA offers clear, up-to-date recycling guidelines on our website that explain what materials are accepted and how they should be prepared.
For residents who do not have access to curbside recycling — or who generate additional recyclable materials — CCRRA also provides convenient drop-off recycling locations. These sites help ensure valuable materials stay out of the landfill and are properly recycled.
In addition, CCRRA manages several special recycling programs for items that cannot be placed in regular recycling bins. These include electronics, tires, wood and vinyl siding, scrap metal and appliances. We also host an annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event, which is free to the community and provides a safe way to dispose of items that require special handling. We have also been known to hold periodic paper shredding events and community tire collection events — you never know when one will pop up!
Education is a key part of CCRRA’s work. The Authority offers recycling education and outreach for schools, community groups, and municipalities. From facility tours and classroom presentations to newsletters and informational materials, CCRRA is committed to helping residents understand why recycling matters and how small actions at home can make a big difference.
Residents are encouraged to visit CCRRA’s website and follow us on social media for recycling tips, event announcements, holiday collection schedules, and answers to frequently asked questions. You can find us on Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn; easy tools to help you stay informed and confident about proper recycling practices.
Finally, CCRRA values community input. Through surveys, public outreach, and direct communication, residents have opportunities to share feedback and suggestions. This input helps shape future programs and ensures our services continue to meet the needs of Centre County.
Recycling is a shared effort, and CCRRA is here to help every step of the way. By providing reliable services, educational resources, and ongoing support, we work every day to make recycling easier, more effective, and more accessible for all residents. Together, we can continue building a cleaner, more sustainable Centre County.
As always, thank you for recycling — we wouldn’t be here without you.
