Here’s where to find Friday fish fries this Lenten season around Centre County

The Lenten season started Wednesday. Local fish fry season started, too.

Starting Friday, churches and fire halls in the area will be serving fish (and sometimes shrimp), fries and stewed tomatoes to all those observing Lent or who just have a good appetite.

Here’s a look at some meals that will be offered in the region.

St. John The Evangelist, Bellefonte

When: Fridays through March 27, 4-7 p.m. Eat in or take out

Address: 132 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte

Cost: $15 for adults, $7 for children between 6 and 12, free for children under 6. Cash only.

Menu: Baked lemon pepper cod, beer-battered haddock or panko-crusted shrimp. Choice of three sides: French fries, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, coleslaw and applesauce. Dessert included. À la carte items include haluski and pierogi.

Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Port Matilda

When: Fridays through March 27, 4–6:30 p.m. Eat in or take out

Address: 867 Grays Woods Blvd., Port Matilda

Cost: $16

Menu: Baked or fried fish, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, coleslaw, rolls, beverage and dessert. Soup available for $5 per bowl or $13 per quart.

Nittany Catering, Bellefonte

When: Fridays through March 27. Pre-order or pick up in person 4–7 p.m.

Address: 3208 Benner Pike, Bellefonte

Cost: $20 for “classic” meals and $25 for “comfort” meals.

Menu: “Classic” meals include fried haddock or haddock en papillote, coleslaw, French fries and hush puppies. “Comfort” meals include fried haddock or haddock en papillote, stewed tomatoes, macaroni and cheese and hush puppies. All menu items are available à la carte.

Columbia Volunteer Fire Company, Osceola Mills

When: Fridays through April 3, 4–6:30 p.m. Drive-thru or delivery

Cost: $14

Menu: Baked or fried fish meals include potatoes, macaroni and cheese, vegetables, coleslaw, stewed tomatoes, dinner rolls and dessert. Fish and chips meal includes coleslaw, stewed tomatoes, dinner rolls and dessert.

Franklin Volunteer Fire Company, Warriors Mark

When: Fridays through March 27, 4–7 p.m. Eat in or take out

Cost: $16 for adults, $8 for children between 6 and 12, free for children under 6

Menu: Baked or fried haddock or fried shrimp. Macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, stewed tomatoes and French fries included. Chicken tenders and drinks are also available.

Nittany Valley Volunteer Fire Company, Lamar

When: Fridays through March 20, 4–7 p.m.

Cost: $25 for adults, $12 for children between 2 and 12, free for children under 2

Menu: All-you-can-eat shrimp (breaded, hot and cold), fish (beer-battered, lemon pepper and baked haddock), clam chowder, fries, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, chicken tenders, clams, rolls and dessert.
