Springsteen to roll The River Tour into Bryce Jordan Center

If you feel like reliving your “Glory Days,” the Bryce Jordan Center will be able to help you out.

On Wednesday, the Jordan Center announced the next big score of its 20th anniversary year, landing The Boss himself. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will bring The River Tour to the Penn State concert venue April 18.

Springsteen has visited Happy Valley before, most recently in 2012, but locals are more than willing to see him again. In a Centre Daily Times poll of “bucket list” concerts people would love to see at the Jordan Center, the New Jersey rock star came in at No. 7.

If the name of the tour sounds familiar, that’s because “The River” first rolled in 1980, along with Springsteen’s album of the same name. The new tour is related to the release of the compilation set “The Ties That Bind: The River Collection,” called by Rolling Stone “Springsteen’s best archival release yet.”

According to the Jordan Center’s press release, “Each night of the tour will be mixed for release on Live.BruceSpringsteen.net as high quality downloads and CDs. Recordings will be available within days of each performance.”

Springsteen will be joined, as usual, by his E Street Band, including Roy Bittan on piano, Nils Lofgren on guitar, Garry Tallent on bass, Max Weinberg on drums, Soozie Tyrell on violin and guitar, Charlie Giordano on keyboards and Jake Clemons, who took over the role of band saxophonist when his uncle Clarence Clemons died in 2011.

The band also features Springsteen’s wife of 24 years, Patti Scialfa, and popular “Sopranos” actor Stevie Van Zandt, both on guitar and vocals.
