Bald Eagle Area School District rallying support for staff member whose family lost home to fire
Community members and a local school district are rallying around a family who lost their home to a fire this week.
A GoFundMe campaign launched Thursday has already raised more than $21,000 for the family of Peyton Moore, Bald Eagle Area School District’s school support therapist. She, along with her husband, daughter and dog, escaped the fire at their Lock Haven home Wednesday night without injury, the Lock Haven Express reported.
Lock Haven Fire Chief Tyler Wooding said discarded ash near the home’s rear deck sparked the two-alarm fire around 9 p.m. Wednesday, the Express reported. Wooding estimated the property loss at about $140,000.
The GoFundMe campaign benefiting the Moore family, launched by community member Jessica Walizer, has already received 248 individual donations as of Friday afternoon. The drive’s goal is currently set at $35,000.
According to its description, the fundraiser hopes to help Moore and her family get back on their feet as they prepare to welcome another child this summer.
“The Moore family suffered a devastating loss last night as they lost their home and everything in it to a fire,” the fundraiser description reads. “They only had their clothes on their back, not even shoes or car keys, as they were sleeping when the fire happened. We are starting this GoFundMe to help alleviate any burden we can while they walk through this journey and the difficulties that come with rebuilding their lies and battling with insurance claims and such.”
In a Facebook post, Bald Eagle Area School District said it would accept donations at its main office. A donation table is also available at Lock Haven’s Avenue 209 Coffeehouse. Mailed donations are accepted at the family’s church, Common Places Church (209 Bellefonte Ave. in Lock Haven, PA 17745).
According to the GoFundMe page, the Moore family is accepting clothing donations in the following sizes:
- For Peyton Moore: large-sized maternity clothes, shoe size 7.5-8
- For Payton Moore: men’s large, shoe size 11
- For Chloe: size 3T, shoe size toddler 7
