The remains of a missing Centre County man were discovered last month in a wooded area on his property, the county coroner said Tuesday.

Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers said there is no evidence of foul play in the death of Leon Bowman, a Curtin Township man who was 77 years old when he was reported missing Christmas Eve. His cause and manner of death was ruled undetermined.

Bowman appeared to be deceased for months before his remains were found Sept. 9 by a Pennsylvania Game Commission warden, Sayers said. He was identified by dental records.

There was neither a gunshot wound nor a weapon near the remains, Sayers said. State police at Rockview are investigating, and a message left Tuesday afternoon with a spokesperson was not immediately returned.

The search for Bowman included interviews with neighbors, reviews of surveillance footage, drones, helicopters and K-9s. More than 20 people with the Howard Fire Co. searched for him Christmas Eve, as well as a handful of community members.
