The Centre County Coroner’s Office released the identities Monday of the parents and child who were killed Christmas Day after a head-on crash near Bald Eagle State Park.
Diana Lyons, 37, Richard Harriott, 33, and the 10-year-old boy, who was not named in a press release, all died of blunt force trauma, Deputy Coroner Shane T. Dickey said. They were residents of Lock Haven.
Two other passengers from the same vehicle were flown Thursday to trauma centers for treatment of life-threatening injuries, state police at Rockview said. A spokesperson told the Centre Daily Times on Monday that he was unable to provide an update on their conditions.
The 10-year-old was a student in the Keystone Central School District. Superintendent Frank Redmon said in an open letter that the child’s sister, a middle school student in the district, was in critical condition after the crash.
“Our hearts are broken for this family,” Redmon wrote. “On behalf of the Keystone Central School District, we extend our deepest condolences to everyone grieving this unimaginable loss. We also hold the surviving family member in our thoughts and prayers, hoping for strength and healing in the days ahead.”
The two drivers crashed about 2:25 p.m. Thursday on state Route 150 (North Eagle Valley Road) near Swartz Hollow Road in Howard Township, a trooper wrote in a press release. Evidence at the scene indicated both vehicles — a 2009 Pontiac G6 and a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder — crossed the centerline and collided head-on, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Lyons, Harriott and the child — all of whom were in the Pontiac — died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was transported to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries, police said.
Those with information about the crash were asked to contact state police at 814-355-7545.
North Eagle Valley Road, from Howard Divide Road to Hunter Run Road, was closed for more than five hours Thursday while first responders worked at the scene. Howard Fire Co., Pleasant Gap EMS, Bellefonte EMS, Blanchard EMS, Mount Nittany Health EMS and the Centre County Emergency Management Agency were among the agencies that assisted.
