Two people were seriously injured Saturday in a broadside crash on a highway in Centre County.

State police at Rockview said the crash occurred about 11:45 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of North Eagle Valley Road and Kunes Street in Liberty Township.

A 90-year-old Blanchard woman was stopped at the intersection while a 29-year-old Clinton County woman was traveling northbound on North Eagle Valley Road, police said in a report issued Tuesday.

The Blanchard woman failed to yield to oncoming traffic and pulled into the intersection, attempting to turn left onto the southbound lane, police said. The Lock Haven woman attempted to stop, but couldn’t avoid the T-bone crash.

The 2020 Subaru Forester driven by the Blanchard woman then rolled onto its roof. She and her passenger, a 91-year-old Blanchard man, were extricated and transported by Beech Creek-Blanchard EMS to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

The Lock Haven woman, who was driving a 2020 Nissan Rogue, was not injured. All three were wearing seat belts, police said. The vehicles were disabled and towed from the scene.

Nine crashes with serious injuries were reported during the past decade in Liberty Township, according to state Department of Transportation data. There were 432 such crashes over that period in Centre County, 7% of which involved a driver 75 or older.

A Centre County Metropolitan Planning Organization report found crashes in the Lower Bald Eagle Valley Region were the most severe in the county on average in 2023. According to the report, 12.5% of crashes in the region left someone killed or seriously injured, well above the 5.7% the county reported.
