Bellefonte restaurant to close its doors at the end of February

A Bellefonte restaurant is set to close after nearly one year in business.

Sammi’s, which the Red Horse Tavern owner Justin Leiter opened in April 2019, will close its doors Feb. 29, according to a Facebook post.

“We were happy to provide and serve our guests with good eats, as well as, community support to local sports teams and civic organizations,” the post reads.

The “fast casual sibling” of the popular Red Horse Tavern in Pleasant Gap, Sammi’s is located at 205 Park Place, where Bonfatto’s had been located before its move to downtown Bellefonte.

Leiter told the CDT last year that he thought the quicker, convenience-based restaurant would be a good change of pace.

“I just thought with today’s schedules and lifestyle and busy-ness, this is something that would suit everyone and fit into their schedule at some point, whether it’s a quick lunch or they’re at ball practice and don’t have time to cook at home,” he said. “This concept seemed like it’d fit people’s lifestyle a little more.”

In the Facebook post, Sammi’s management wrote that they look forward to customers’ continued patronage at the Red Horse Tavern.
