An open-air performing arts stage in Bellefonte? How to help ‘Stage at Talleyrand’ take shape
A capital fundraising campaign to raise money to design and build an open-air performing arts stage in Bellefonte’s Talleyrand Park was recently announced by organizers.
The center would be located in the Talleyrand Park Annex, near the former Subway restaurant, according to a press release from the Stage at Talleyrand Development Committee, a volunteer committee of residents dedicated to creating the performing arts facility.
The committee’s vision is to create a facility that local performers — from choral groups and orchestras to theater troupes and music groups — can call home, the release states. The center will also serve as a space to host performers from outside the region.
Though discussions about creating the facility began before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the pandemic showed how much something like this is needed, according to the release.
“The committee has hopes to build the largest permanent outdoor venue in Centre County,” Rick Jacobs, a member of the Stage at Talleyrand Development Committee, said in the release. “Over the past two years, we saw the need for a high-quality venue that can entertain people in a safe way. As we return to normal, we think the public will appreciate the ability to enjoy entertainment ... outdoors.”
People can contribute to one or more specific target locations within the project, the release states. Many of these contributions will be eligible for donor recognition. Donations will be facilitated by Downtown Bellefonte Inc. while the committee will retain its own treasurer.
Firms are currently being interviewed to begin the design and development process. A fundraising goal will be announced once that is completed. Its website states final projected costs are estimated to be between $1 million and $1.25 million.
“While the committee will be working with local politicians at all levels to identify various grant opportunities, it is important that the Stage at Talleyrand has a community commitment so we will also be soliciting funds from citizens of Centre County and others who support this idea,” Jacobs said.
