Centre County’s free COVID-19 testing site is moving to new location. What to know

Centre County’s free, walk-in COVID-19 testing site has been extended but will move to a new location this week.

The state Department of Health’s COVID-19 testing site for the general public, through a partnership with AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, has been located at the Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority, 253 Transfer Road, State College, for several months. It will remain there through Thursday, Margaret Gray, Centre County’s administrator said, and beginning Friday it will be at 219 S. Water Street, Bellefonte (the former Subway restaurant).

“That building is now owned by the Borough of Bellefonte and they are more than willing to allow AMI and the Department of Health to use the space. We’ve toured it, it will work as long as our numbers stay down and we’re hoping for that, especially during the summer months,” Gray said during Tuesday’s Centre County Commissioners meeting.

It will remain there through September, Gray said.

Hours of operation will remain 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. It is open to everyone, regardless of age or residency, and free of cost. Individuals with insurance will be asked to provide an insurance card but no co-pay or any other cost is charged. Anyone who is uninsured will also be testing without cost to the person. ID is required.
