Avoid the area: Wall collapse in Bellefonte causes lane closure, detour

South Water Street in Bellefonte is down to one lane after a wall collapse between West High and Mill streets, officials said Saturday.

All traffic going into Bellefonte from State College will need to use Stoney Batter Road, and outgoing traffic will use one lane of South Water Street. The restriction may be in place “for some time,” PennDOT wrote in a Saturday evening update.

“PennDOT will review repair options and make repairs as quickly as possible to provide two-way traffic through the area.”

Large commercial traffic is encouraged to plan routes that avoid the downtown area unless they’re making local deliveries, Bellefonte Borough police posted on Facebook.

There’s a “high potential for traffic in the area,” the police department wrote, and PennDOT said drivers should avoid the area if possible.
