Bellefonte duplex damaged, some residents displaced after Monday morning fire
No one was injured Monday by a fire that damaged a duplex in Bellefonte, a fire official said.
More than two dozen first responders were called about 7:30 a.m. Monday to a fire that broke out in the first-floor living room of a duplex along the 100 block of South Thomas Street, according to Bellefonte Fire Department Deputy Chief Rob Pacella.
The fire was under control about 8:15 a.m., Pacella said. He described damage to the duplex as minor. The cause is being investigated by a fire marshal and the Centre Region Code Administration.
Two gerbils, a dog and a cat were rescued. Those who live in the side of the duplex where the fire began were displaced, Pacella said. The other side of the building had light smoke damage.
Pleasant Gap, Undine, Logan, Alpha and Milesburg fire companies assisted, as well as Bellefonte EMS, West Penn Power, borough police and the water department.
Thomas Street was closed at North Potter and West High streets.
