A Geisinger urgent care clinic in Bellefonte “temporarily closed” Monday due to staffing limitations, and it’s not yet known how soon it might reopen, according to a spokesperson from the organization.

When asked whether ConvenientCare Bellefonte at 174 Buckaroo Lane anticipated reopening in days or whether it might take longer, the Geisinger spokesperson simply said the clinic would reopen “as soon as possible.” In the meantime, both the organization’s website and signs on the door redirect patients to other locations and to virtual care.

“The (Bellefonte) location is temporarily closed due to unforeseen staffing limitations,” Geisinger spokesperson Valerie Reed said in an email. “There’s a sign on the door of this location detailing the Geisinger State College ConvenientCare information — including our address and operating hours. We also provide our website that gives other ConvenientCare locations and a QR code that can be scanned.”

Of Geisinger’s 28 listed urgent care clinics, two are in Centre County. As of noon Wednesday, the county’s only open location — in State College (1630 N. Atherton St.) — had an average wait of 2 hours, 30 minutes. On Tuesday, the wait time at one point exceeded three-and-a-half hours.

Normally, the clinics are open seven days a week.

The temporary closure does not appear to be an isolated instance at Geisinger. On Wednesday, at least three other locations around the state shared a similar “temporarily closed” message on their respective webpages.

For the Bellefonte location, a blue sign on the door informed patients the office would be closed starting Monday — although no explanation or timetable was offered. An automated answering machine at ConvenientCare Bellefonte did not mention it was closed and, instead, still offered callers the opportunity to “speak to a member of our team.” When that extension was dialed, the phone rang until another automated message explained, “If you reached this message, we are busy assisting other patients” and hung up.
