One of the six residents displaced in a Bellefonte apartment building fire on Friday has started a GoFundMe campaign for those who lived there.

The Friday afternoon fire in the 100 block of East High Street affected six people in four apartments, Taylor Douglas wrote on the website for the fundraiser, which raised more than $600 by Monday afternoon.

“I am hoping to raise funds to get the tenants into new housing, as many of us have no where to go and are staying with friends or family or at hotels,” Douglas wrote. “We also need to replace many of our belongings due to smoke and water damage.”

The funds raised by the GoFundMe will be split evenly between all six displaced tenants, the page states.

The fire broke out on Friday afternoon and shut down traffic on portions of Allegheny and High streets. In a Facebook post, the Undine Fire Department thanked several businesses — Weis Markets, Pizza Mia and Lykens — and members for donating gift cards, food items and water to area firefighters who battled the blaze in the heat.

The Greater Pennsylvania branch of the American Red Cross wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the organization assisted the six tenants post-fire.

Douglas and the Undine Fire Department could not immediately be reached for comment.
