The collection of vibrant businesses in downtown Bellefonte will soon add a new addition when a cafe run by some familiar faces opens its doors.

Bees Knees Coffee, a mobile coffee shop owned by Bromlyn Fitzgerald, will open its first indoor coffee location in March, the business posted on social media on Saturday. The Shaky Hands Coffee Shop, 106 W. Bishop St. in downtown Bellefonte, will open a decade after Fitzgerald first went into business in Centre County.

The new coffee shop will be the first Bees Knees service to provide indoor seating to customers, according to the post.

“This has been a loooooong awaited announcement and we’re still waiting for an opening day but we are happy to announce that you will finally have a seat and cover from the elements while you enjoy a coffee or treat from us,” the post reads. “There will be seating in the front area, ordering in the back and an outdoor space to laze in during the warmer months.”

According to the business’s website, Bees Knees Coffee previously conducted its business in three ways: at its miniature beverage and baked goods take-out window located at 114 E. College Ave. in Pleasant Gap; through an online delivery service that only serves the coffee provider’s canned beverages; and through a mobile coffee truck that traveled to local farmers markets and events.

In addition to the indoor seating, the post shared more details about what the new shop would offer — coffee from Cafe Lemont will be used as its house roast, a host of new breakfast and lunch items will be served and additional baked goods will be provided, along with soup offerings.

The shop will also highlight the artwork of local artists and provide them with small galleries to display their work.

Once it’s open, Shaky Hands could provide its customers with more than just coffee and food products, too. According to the post, the shop may also host game nights, live music events and “other opportunities for people to come together and share.”

Bees Knees Coffee isn’t the only business that’s staked its claim in downtown Bellefonte this year — The Frame Factory and Gallery moved to the borough from its State College location, and the Print Factory, a nonprofit bookstore and community space, opened its doors in October.

While an official opening date and hours for the coffee shop haven’t been decided on yet, the opening for Shaky Hands Coffee Shop will fall sometime in March 2025, and will be accompanied by a 10-year business anniversary celebration.
