Chipotle Mexican Grill eyes third location in Centre County in popular area for development
Chipotle Mexican Grill is eyeing a third location in Centre County in an area that has continued to see a boom of development.
The fast-casual restaurant known for its made-to-order burritos, bowls and tacos is expected to submit a land development plan for a Benner Township location, the township confirmed Tuesday. The restaurant is proposing to develop one of the lots that is part of the Paradise Shopping Center on Benner Pike, where the Giant grocery store is.
The township board of supervisors approved a memorandum of understanding during its meeting Monday night, which states the developer will reimburse the township for the engineering costs of the plan. Sharon Royer, the township’s secretary and treasurer, said she expects the land development plan to be submitted to the county this week.
Chipotle has two locations in Centre County, one in downtown State College and another on North Atherton Street.
A lot of development is planned for the thriving corridor; the Chipotle is planned for one of the last two open restaurant lots left in the shopping center. The Giant store opened in 2022 and most recently, a McDonalds opened in the center. Centre County’s first Wawa is planned for the area, along with at least two hotels.
