Centre County fire companies responded Sunday afternoon to fight a wildfire along state Route 144 in Potter Township.

Crews were first called to the 700 block of Old Fort Road (Route 144) at about 4:08 p.m., according to dispatch reports. Centre Hall, Pleasant Gap, Gregg Township, Millheim, Boalsburg and Alpha fire companies were among those dispatched.

The wind drove the fire that was pushing east, Centre Hall Volunteer Fire Company member Mike Frazier told the CDT in an email, but firefighters got it out before it could jump across a fence row into a wild tangle of brush in the next field.

Penns Valley EMS also responded.
