Heavily traveled road in Penns Valley closed for ‘an extended period’ after rollover crash

An about one-mile stretch of a heavily traveled road was closed Tuesday after a semitrailer overturned in rural Centre County, the state Department of Transportation wrote in a tweet.

Both lanes of state Route 45 were closed between the road’s intersections with Hidden Lake Drive and Rimmey Road in Potter Township, PennDOT wrote about 1:50 p.m. The road was expected to be closed for an extended period, PennDOT wrote, and as of 7:30 p.m. it had not reopened.

The vehicle that was hauling meat overturned about 12:25 p.m., Centre Hall Volunteer Fire Co. Captain Forrest Rishel said. The driver and a passenger were treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center for minor injuries, he said.

A telephone pole was also damaged in the crash. Boalsburg Fire Co., PennDOT, Verizon, Comcast, West Penn Power and Penns Valley EMS were among those that assisted.
