Penns Valley art gallery, shop closing after more than a decade in business
An art gallery and shop in Penns Valley is closing in October after more than 10 years in business.
The Green Drake Gallery and Arts Center, an art gallery, a collection of artist studios, music venue and more, is closing Oct. 14, according to a Facebook post by manager Kurt Grotz.
“It is with great sadness that I inform you that the Green Drake Gallery is closing on October 14 2023. It has been my privilege to take over where Karl Leitzel left off and continue this amazing endeavor for the past three years. In short there are many reasons but in the end it is just time to retire and focus on my house and health issues,” Grotz wrote in the post.
The Green Drake has been in a 130-year-old building at 101-B W. Main St., Millheim since opening in 2011. It has hosted art shows, music performances, poetry readings and receptions.
A final in-store sale is set for 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
“We will be closed the following week as we finish packing and preparing for the Aaronsburg Dutch Fall Festival where we will sell our remaining inventory October 7&8 as a Grand Good Bye at a Grand Event,” the post states.
