Injuries reported after tent set up for Amish wedding collapses in Spring Mills
A handful of people were injured and an Amish wedding was upended Thursday after a structure with hundreds of people inside partially collapsed in Gregg Township.
About 5-6 people had injuries that Gregg Township Fire Co. Chief Troy Parker described as minor. Some of the injured were transported to receive medical care, but Parker did not know where they were taken.
Emergency responders were dispatched about 9:15 a.m. Thursday to the 900 block of Lower Georges Valley Road for a report of a structure collapsing with 300-400 people inside. It’s unclear how the tent collapsed, Parker said.
The Millheim and Miles Township fire departments assisted, as well as Penns Valley EMS, Centre LifeLink EMS, Pleasant Gap EMS and the Centre County Emergency Management Agency.
The injures were accounted for and the tent was stabilized within about 15 minutes, Parker said.
“In a rural community you go ahead and everybody comes together, helps out where they can,” Parker said. “Whether it be the fire department or the Amish community, they’ll help out where it’s needed.”
