A Centre County family’s home was destroyed and a cat died in a fast-moving, predawn fire Monday.
Dozens of volunteer firefighters were dispatched about 3:05 am. Monday to the two-story home on the 100 block of West Main Street in Rebersburg, Miles Township Fire Co. Chief Eric Miller told the Centre Daily Times.
The fast, aggressive fire appeared to begin on the rear porch and then quickly spread throughout the entire house. Within minutes, Miller said flames were shooting out of every window.
About 40-50 firefighters — aided by no issues with water pressure — had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes, Miller said. A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is investigating the cause. The fire chief said it is not believed to be suspicious.
Five people, including three children, were inside the home when the fire began, Miller said. A cat died, while the dogs were unharmed, he said. The residents were displaced and are believed to be staying with family members.
In a Facebook post shared by the fire company, Lynda Bowersox asked that any donations for the family of five be dropped off at 190 North St. in Millheim. She also said she’s willing to pick donations up.
A GoFundMe campaign was also started Monday for the family.
The Millheim, Gregg Township and Centre Hall fire companies assisted, as did Penns Valley EMS and the Sugar Valley Community Volunteer Fire Co. from Clinton County.
