Motorists should expect more traffic delays on state Route 45 during when a paving project begins next week, the state department of transportation announced.

Route 45 in the Penns Valley area, between Williams Road (just west of the intersection with Route 144 in Potter Township) and Penns Cave Road in Gregg Township will be paved beginning Sept. 8. It is expected to take about two weeks to complete.

Flaggers will be on the road to provide traffic control during the day. PennDOT said drivers should anticipate delays and exercise caution while in work zones.

Drivers took to social media Tuesday to share about their traffic delays as highway resurfacing on Route 45 began. A PennDOT spokesperson said motorists should expect similar delays during the next part of the project.

“Flaggers will be in the roadway providing traffic control throughout, so drivers should anticipate similar traffic impacts for the duration of work at this site,” a spokesperson said.

Some other improvements will be made to Interstate 99 and Route 144 in Centre County as part of the project’s contract. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. is the contractor on the $5.7 million project, which includes milling and paving operations, pavement marking and other miscellaneous construction.
