A 3-year-old was hospitalized Monday after what state police at Rockview described as a farming accident involving a horse-drawn planter.

The boy was injured about 5:05 p.m. Monday along the 6000 block of Brush Valley Road in Miles Township, police said Tuesday. After receiving care from first responders at the scene, he was flown by medical helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Police said he remained at the hospital as of Tuesday. Troopers did not detail the child’s condition further. An investigation is ongoing. A message left Tuesday with Miles Township Fire Co. was not immediately returned.

There were 19 known agricultural fatalities in 2024 in Pennsylvania, according to Penn State researchers. That was lower than the long-term average of 28 deaths per year, but researchers said agricultural fatalities can vary greatly from year to year.

All but three were men and 42% were from an Anabaptist community. One-fourth were under the age of 10.
