A new dog park is coming soon to Centre County. What you (and your pet) need to know

The Philipsburg Dog Park is one step closer to becoming a reality.

Philipsburg resident Elliott Lauder came up with the idea for the park when he realized the borough didn’t have a place for fellow dog owners to bring their pets. Lauder, who loves traveling with his wife and dog, presented the idea to the Philipsburg Borough Council in 2018, and after two years of fundraising efforts, the project is fully funded.

“This project has taken us some time, but I am so happy and appreciative of all the hard work and generosity this community has given to make this happen,” Lauder wrote on Facebook Thursday. “All I can say is thank you. Soon hopefully, we can all go to the official Philipsburg Dog Park.”

The park is planned for a small section of land near the intersection of East Pine Street and Railroad Street, according to the plans. The initial cost was expected to be about $25,000, mainly for fencing around the proposed site.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the borough does not have a specific date to begin construction on the project, Lauder said, but once built, the borough will be in charge of maintenance.
