Philipsburg residents displaced after fire damages building that’s home to pizza shop, apartments
A building in Philipsburg that’s home to a pizza shop and several apartments was damaged by a fire Monday, the Philipsburg Fire Department assistant chief said Tuesday.
Firefighters were dispatched about 10:10 p.m. Monday to battle smoke and flames inside a laundry room at 221 N. Front St. There was “extensive” damage to the room, Assistant Chief Justin Butterworth said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Most of the apartments were occupied when the fire began, Butterworth said. About six residents were displaced, Philipsburg Fire Department Chief John Huber said. No injuries were reported.
The fire was under control by about 10:55 p.m., Butterworth said, though the last group of first responders didn’t leave until about 1:10 a.m. Tuesday.
Brother’s Pizza sits on the ground floor of the building. The business did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday. About a dozen fire departments and EMS agencies responded.
