At least 4 taken to hospitals after crash on U.S. Route 322 in Rush Township, state police say

Four people were transported to hospitals Monday after a two-vehicle crash on a major highway in Rush Township, state police at Rockview said Tuesday.

A 55-year-old Philipsburg woman driving westbound about 9:30 p.m. Monday crossed into the eastbound lane of U.S. Route 322 and crashed head-on with another driver, police said. Each were driving SUVs.

The Philipsburg woman was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital. The other driver and a toddler were transported by ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. A passenger was also flown to a hospital.

Neither alcohol, drugs nor speed are believed to be a factor, police said. The highway was closed until about 11:15 p.m. from Philipsburg to Port Matilda.

Rush Township reported 38 fatal or serious crashes between 2012 and 2021, state Department of Transportation data showed. That was the second-most among municipalities in Centre County, trailing only State College (44).
