Mount Nittany Health, an expansive regional health system, plans to open a family medicine and primary care practice in Philipsburg by early 2017.
Located next to Peebles department store off North Front Street, the practice will be the organization’s 16th physician group location and first in the Philipsburg area.
Nichole Monica, Mount Nittany Health’s communications and media relations director, said the move dovetails with a plan for growth, which includes assessing how far patients travel for doctor’s visits.
“It’s part of our long-term strategy for our patients to be able to identify barriers to receiving care, but also to identify opportunities to improve access to care,” she said.

Besides primary care, the Philipsburg plaza practice will offer lab and specialty services, including cardiology, urology and nephrology, among others. Monica said plans are to offer radiology services at a later date.
“We felt that this was a good opportunity to provide primary care but also have spaces there for rotations of specialty services,” she said, “so that people have access to their cardiologist or diabetes specialist or urologist close to their community.”
Drs. Paul Guillard and Frank Guillard will oversee the practice. The organization has plans to hire another doctor, Monica said, besides support staff for the new office.
In 2015, Mount Nittany Health eclipsed $500 million in total assets. It added its Blue Course Drive facility in State College and Children’s Advocacy Center in Bellefonte in 2013 and completed a relocation and renovation of its Penns Valley practice in December.
