Lovers of music and events with really long names rejoice.

The State College Area School District Music Boosters Used Instrument Sale will be held from 8-9 p.m. on Thursday in the high school’s North Building cafeteria.

John Cunningham has put no fewer than three sons through the SCASD music program and this is exactly the kind of event he would of liked to have known about back in the day.

It gives the kid that’s just getting going a nice instrument.

“It gives the kid that’s just getting going a nice instrument,” Cunningham said.

The pockets of the booster club get a little fatter, too. Cunningham said that previous years have featured anywhere between 80 and 120 instruments for sale.

Proceeds will allow the club to continue supporting — through trips, equipment, scholarships — the music programs at SCASD.

I would actually like to see it expand a little bit more into that side of things.

Sellers can bring their instruments to Room 38 of the High School North Building from 7- 9 p.m. Wednesday. Teachers will be on hand to help evaluate each item and a 10 percent consignment fee will be collected upon sale.

Cunningham and associates are usually fishing for band instruments, but guitars, amps and the occasional base have been known to get caught in the net.

“I would actually like to see it expand a little bit more into that side of things,” Cunningham said.
