State College receives almost $808,000 in CDBG funding, HOME grants

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $807,900 to State College to help low- and moderate-income residents.

The federal dollars are meant to help these residents “find suitable housing options and expand economic opportunities,” according to a press release from the office of U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard Township.

State College received $487,421 through the Community Development Block Grant and $320,531 through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, the release said.

“The HOME and CDBG funds are critical parts of our efforts to provide affordable housing in State College,” Thomas Daubert, State College Borough Council president, said in the release. “We utilize these funds through various partnerships, like the State College Land Trust and Temporary Housing Foundation Inc., which strive to provide affordable housing for working-class people in this market of rapidly escalating real estate prices.”
