Will your voting place change? Centre County looks at shifting State College boundary lines
In an attempt to make Election Day run smoothly, Centre County is looking to create two new voter precincts in State College, with one designated for Penn State students.
The Centre County Board of Elections filed a petition to change the boundary lines of Precincts 24, 25, 27, 28, 29 and 33 in the Borough of State College and on Penn State’s campus, according to a notice issued to registered voters. If approved, the boundaries will be combined into Precinct 24 — Penn State Campus — and Precinct 29, State College East Central No. 2.
Director of Elections and Voter Registration Joyce McKinley said the changes, if enacted, will combine the boundaries for Penn State students, making election day easier by having one, centralized location.
“With one major precinct, the process on Election Day will be much smoother and make it more conducive,” McKinley said.
The HUB-Robeson Center currently serves as the polling location for voters registered to vote at precincts 24, 25, 27 and 33 — the majority of Penn State students who are registered to vote. St Paul’s United Methodist Church serves as Precinct 28 on Election Day, and Precinct 29 is the State College Municipal Building.
Any objections to the district boundary line changes must be filed in writing to the Clerk of the Centre County Court of Common Pleas at the Centre County Courthouse. A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 29 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom No. 2 of the courthouse in Bellefonte to discuss the proposed changes.
If approved, all electors affected will be notified of their election district and will receive information with updated polling place locations before the primary election.
Precinct descriptions and maps can be viewed at the Election Office, located at 420 Holmes St. in Bellefonte, or at the State College Municipal Building, located at 243 S. Allen St. in State College.
