State College drivers should plan to take an alternative route as construction begins on West Park Avenue next week.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, West Park Avenue between North Atherton and North Allen streets will be closed to all traffic as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and State College Borough Department of Public Works complete pipe replacement work. West Park Avenue between North Allen Street and Shortlidge Road will be closed to commercial traffic.

Residents will still be able to access the College Heights neighborhood via North Allen Street.

The project is a joint effort between PennDOT and the State College Borough. PennDOT will provide traffic control, replacement piping, backfilling and paving once the repairs are complete. All other work will be completed by the borough.

The roadway is expected to open by 7 p.m. March 13, but all work is dependent on weather and is subject to change.
