How CCRRA is working to keep its workers safe, and how you can help

While many are staying put during these unsure times (for very good reason), many essential services are still working to keep the people in our country safe. I, myself, am so grateful for our health care providers, farmers, law enforcement, truck drivers, delivery drivers, grocery store workers, bankers, post office workers and many, many others who are working around the clock to keep this country moving.

I cannot speak for all industries but I can give you some tips on keeping our refuse and recycling crews safe during the COVID-19 virus pandemic.

Recycling collections/Transfer Station update

Our recycling collection services remain operational and the transfer station and recycling processing facility are open for regular business, however, the Centre County Recycling & Refuse front office is closed to walk-in inquiries and traffic.

We ask those of you who normally come to the office to pay your monthly bill, either mail your payment or drop it off at the scale house.

Our aim is to protect the public and our employees during these uncertain times. Telephones are staffed, and as always if you are looking for trash and recycling information, please check www.centrecountyrecycles.org as well as our Facebook page.

I would like to remind everyone that tissues, paper towels and other products used for sanitary measures should NOT be placed with mixed paper recycling. Items to include with recycled mixed paper: newspaper, office paper, paper grocery bags, mail, shredded paper, magazines, catalogs, construction paper, cereal and food boxes, etc).

DO NOT put used tissues, paper towels, paper plates and other like items in the recycling bins.

Refuse update

With the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, all Centre County haulers and public works departments are doing all they can to protect workers and contractors who are providing essential services. One of those services is refuse collection. To better serve you and protect staff, we are reminding residents and businesses that all trash materials are to be bagged prior to being placed inside the dumpster, cart or can. The only exception is bulk refuse with prior arrangements for scheduled collection as appropriate in your municipality.

Remember, all of our employees are your friends and neighbors, so please maintain social distancing.

We know this is a continually evolving situation so please continue to check social media for updates.

If you have questions about recycling, please give us a call at 238-7005 or email aschirf@centrecountyrecycles.org.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our essential workers safe and healthy!
