Delays expected as PennDOT starts final leg of Atherton Street construction project
Construction will resume on North Atherton Street as crews work to complete the roadway project over the next two months.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that work on State College roadway will begin May 18. Remaining work on the $12.8 million project includes installing new drainage, curb, sidewalks, curb ramps, signal upgrades and paving.
From May 18-22, drivers should anticipate a one lane restriction at the Curtin Road intersection as the contractor — Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. — installs conduit for signal upgrades.
Flaggers will direct travel around the area, and traffic delays could occur for short periods of time, according to a PennDOT release.
Drivers should use both lanes to merge throughout construction to minimize delays in travel times. PennDOT also asks motorists to not block signalized intersections as it prevents traffic from side streets from crossing.
All work is weather dependent and will be done in accordance with guidelines for social distancing.
