These Fullington Trailways routes in State College will be cut beginning April 1
Five routes to and from State College via Fullington Trailways will be discontinued after March 31 as part of daily departure consolidations due to budget constraints and a Federal Transit Administration audit.
In a press release, Fullington Trailways wrote they learned last year through a PennDOT Request for Proposal that its daily departures (also known as line runs) were being consolidated. Fullington Trailways was the successful bidder of the majority of the routes PennDOT proposed, it stated, but the RFP outline reduced service levels throughout the state.
As part of the reductions, all trips to and from State College and Harrisburg (schedules 703, 704, 705, 740, 715, 725 and 726) will be eliminated.
Also to be eliminated are schedules 710 and 730, which go between Pittsburgh, Dubois/State College and Harrisburg, and back. A new schedule very similar in times will be offered beginning April 1, according to the website. More information will be posted there.
Though there are some cuts, a new schedule that will take passengers to Dubois, State College, Harrisburg, King of Prussia and Philadelphia, and back, will begin April 1.
“Fullington Trailways challenged the state’s decisions the entire way through this process, but it became clear due to their budgetary constraints that Fullington Trailways would not be able to retain certain existing daily routes going forward,” the press release stated. “Greyhound was the other recipient and was awarded the remaining routes with a reduction of service to their system as well.”
In some cases, the reduction was by 50% and in other cases a community’s service was completely discontinued, according to the release.
“We regret that we will be unable to serve … some rural communities we have so enjoyed providing safe and reliable transportation to for so many years,” the release stated.
No employee should be adversely affected by the reduction in services, according to the release.
