Parking garage in downtown State College to temporarily close for repairs. What to expect

A parking garage in downtown State College is set to soon close for a few days due to planned renovations, according to the borough.

The 335-space Fraser Street Parking Garage will be temporarily closed between 5 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. July 26. Motorists are also asked to have their vehicles parked below Level 4 by Tuesday evening, as the crossover at Level 4 and up will be closed Wednesday.

Per the borough, permit holders and commuters should use the Pugh Street Garage and the Beaver Avenue Garage during the closure.

The repairs for all four garages are expected to cost about $1.46 million this year. The Pugh Street Parking Garage was closed for about a week last month, and the McAllister Street Parking Deck has had partial closures for brief periods as needed. Repairs have addressed concrete spalls and cracks, joint sealants, stair tread repairs, repointing of areas of brick, installation of some new roof drains, traffic toppings and some painting.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding while this necessary work is completed to extend the life of the public facilities,” the borough wrote in a community notice.

Once the 37-year-old Fraser Street Garage is reopened July 26, there will be smaller closures of specific areas in the parking garage to complete repairs — but the facility will remain open.

Those with further questions are asked to contact the State College Parking Department at 814-278-4769.
