A State High grad made it through the blind auditions on Season 22 of ‘The Voice’
A 2006 State High graduate will appear on this season of “The Voice.”
Hillary (Ward) Torchiana performed Adele’s “Easy on Me” during the fifth night of blind auditions, which aired Monday night on NBC.
Country singer Blake Shelton was the only coach who turned his chair for Torchiana. He praised the “twang” in her voice.
“It was enough that I thought, you know what, I’m not sure exactly where this girl is coming from, but I want to be a part of it.”
Shelton’s wife and fellow coach Gwen Stefani joked that she didn’t turn because Torchiana would have picked her as coach and she wanted to give Shelton a chance.
Torchiana, who has performed with the Phyrst Phamily Band, told Shelton she hoped he would turn because the singer reminded her of her fiance, Joe. They were planning to wed within weeks of the show’s taping this summer and told coach John Legend their first dance would be to his song “Never Break.”
Shelton later praised Torchiana’s “incredible voice.”
“I feel like I got away with one with Hillary,” Shelton said. “I think she’s very prepared for a competition like this.”
“The Voice” airs at 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays.
