Part of West College Avenue in Ferguson Township closed after crash that sheared off utility pole

Part of West College Avenue was closed early Saturday morning following a crash that caused a downed utility pole.

Ferguson Township police officers responded to the 2200 block of West College Avenue at about 2:53 a.m. Saturday for a reported vehicle crash, according to a Facebook post from the police department. Officers determined that a 29-year-old woman driving a Buick sedan had left the roadway, struck and sheared off a utility pole. The vehicle then came to a rest in a grassy area off the roadway.

The sheared pole caused low-hanging wires across the street, and police wrote that the driver of a box style truck then struck the wires, causing the roof of the truck to be sheared off.

The 29-year-old woman driver of the Buick was arrested on suspicion of DUI, police said, and charges are pending toxicology results. There were no injuries in the crash, according to dispatch reports.

Just after 8 a.m., police wrote that West College Avenue is expected to be closed for “several more hours” while crews work to replace the utility pole. It’s closed in both directions between Bristol Avenue and Science Park Road, according to 511Pa.com.

Alpha Fire Department, Alpha Fire Police, Centre LifeLink EMS, Stewart’s Towing, PennDOT and Verizon assisted at the scene.
