A new smoothie cafe has plans to come to downtown State College, though the timeline of when that may happen is still unknown.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe, which boasts made-to-order smoothies, wraps, sandwiches and flatbreads, will be in the retail space of The Maxxen, a high-rise student apartment complex at 131 Hiester St., State College, according to a Facebook post by Bennett Williams Commercial. The post states there is 1,255 square feet of retail space.

Kandy Weader, commercial associate for Bennett Williams Commercial, said in an email Friday that the build-out will take “several months” and Tropical Smoothie Cafe does not have an opening day yet.

This will be the company’s first location in Centre County and the surrounding area, according to its website. The closest of the more than 1,000 nationwide locations is in the Harrisburg area.

Two other restaurants are also in The Maxxen, El Jefe’s Taqueria and the yet-to-open Mezeh Mediterranean Grill. The Maxxen, formerly known as Here State College, sits atop the former Garner Street parking lot in downtown State College.
