Schlow Centre Region Library reopened Wednesday after a pipe burst over the weekend.

The library was closed to the public Tuesday to clean up the damage left after a sprinkler head broke on the second floor.

“With help from staff, volunteers, and the Borough of State College, we finished drying out and cleaning up Schlow Centre Region Library yesterday,” library Director Lisa Rives Collens said in a statement Wednesday.

Library staff is examining what happened after the library took preventative steps in response to a previous frozen pipe issue.

“With support from the COG Facilities Project Manager, library staff is reviewing why we had a sprinkler line freeze after the entire building was evaluated and insulated following the previously frozen pipe failure in 2015,” Collens said.

Collens also thanked Alpha Fire Company and the borough for their quick initial response, which helped minimize the cost of the damage.
