Residents of Ferguson Township and State College will have another choice for cable and broadband service.

Both municipalities reached agreements earlier this year with Shentel and its Glo Fiber brand to operate cable TV services. Glo Fiber is expected to begin construction of its infrastructure system locally in 2024.

“We are thrilled to be expanding our Glo Fiber service to this area,” Chris Kyle, Shentel vice president of industry and regulatory affairs, said in a press release Wednesday. “Both State College Borough and Ferguson Township are vibrant areas with a college atmosphere also known for their arts and cultural activities. Our services will enhance the areas, giving residents and students more options and businesses opportunities to expand and grow with future demands. Glo Fiber has been transformative in each market we have launched, and we cannot wait to bring this positive impact to State College and Ferguson.”

Glo Fiber offers symmetrical upload and download speeds as well as speeds up to 5 gigs and local customer service representatives.

Ferguson and State College will continue their franchise agreements with Comcast.

Shentel, based in Virginia, serves communities in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia. The company said construction will take 18 to 24 months, and residents will be notified about 30 days before work begins in their neighborhood.
