PennDOT’s Atherton Street construction project continues this week, with work expected around College and Beaver avenues.

A crew will be working through Thursday between Beaver and Highland to install a new water line, the Department of Transportation said. Atherton will be down to one lane in each direction, and one lane will be open on Beaver Avenue.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, workers will be setting up temporary traffic lights in the Beaver Avenue intersection. Traffic will be limited to one lane on Atherton and one lane on Beaver.

On Thursday, a crew will be working in the College Avenue intersection to set up temporary traffic lights. Traffic will again be limited to one lane on Atherton and one lane on College.

No work is scheduled to take place Friday, PennDOT said.

“Please use caution when traveling through the work zone and do not follow construction equipment into the closed lane.,” PennDOT wrote in its most recent project update. “When approaching the work zone, use both lanes to the merge point to minimize traffic back-ups and shorten travel delays.”

The $30.7 million, three-year project is expected to be completed in fall 2024, and work is weather- and schedule-dependent.
