Emergency crews respond to second-alarm fire in Ferguson Township
Centre County fire crews were called early Monday afternoon to a second-alarm building fire in the 1100 block of West Beaver Avenue in Ferguson Township.
Crews had the blaze knocked down shortly after arrival, according to dispatch reports. No one was inside the two-story building when crews arrived and there were no reported injuries, Shawn Kauffman, fire director for Alpha Fire Company said. One pet was inside the building and escaped but was later found.
“The fire extended from the kitchen area up into the second floor, into the bedroom area and also the attic,” Kauffman said. “That’s the reason we cut the hole to get heat out of the attic area.”
Alpha Fire Company, Boalsburg Fire Company and Lifelink EMS were on scene with additional fire companies on standby.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but the area of origin was the kitchen, Kauffman said. The fire was called in after a passerby heard alarms and saw smoke coming out of the home.
West Beaver Avenue was closed from Osmond to Corl streets while crews were on the scene.
