State College cyclist dies after crash on South Atherton Street, police say
A State College cyclist died Monday after a crash on South Atherton Street, according to State College police.
Police responded to the crash at about noon in the 3500 block of South Atherton Street, near T&B Medical. The cyclist, a 70-year-old State College resident, was traveling along the bike path before suddenly entering the roadway, police wrote in a Tuesday news release. The bicycle struck a northbound vehicle.
First responders performed aid, but the cyclist, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene.
The unidentified driver was also a Centre County resident and police said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, police wrote.
Centre County Accident Reconstruction Team, Centre Life Link EMS, Boalsburg Fire Company, the Centre County Coroner’s Office and PennDOT were present at the scene. The crash caused a three-hour lane closure on South Atherton on Monday afternoon.
