‘An exciting time.’ State College’s new hospital, medical office on track for 2024 opening
Construction continues for the $70 million Penn Highlands State College hospital and medical office, and things are on track to open in 2024.
Since spring 2022, construction has been underway for the area’s new hospital along Colonnade Boulevard in Patton Township. In the past two months, exterior brick and glass were installed on the hospital building and the roofing is in place, a press release from Penn Highlands Healthcare highlighted. Sidewalks have been poured and the lawn is beginning to grow around the property.
More work has been done inside, the release states, including patient corridors and rooms on the second floor, in-wall mechanical, electrical and plumbing on the first floor, and elevators have been installed.
“This is an exciting time as Penn Highlands State College continues to take shape,” said Rhonda Halstead, regional market president for the central region at Penn Highlands Healthcare. “We are looking forward to when the hospital and medical office building are completed and the physicians and providers are onsite so that the people in Centre County and surrounding regions can take full advantage of emergency care and specialty services Penn Highlands State College will offer.”
The hospital is set to open in 2024, the release states, and it will offer numerous amenities, including an emergency department with 10 private treatment rooms and a trauma room, a surgical department with three operating suits, as well as one endoscopy procedure room, 18 private inpatient rooms and a medical imaging department.
In addition, the medical office will have services and providers including a walk-in clinic, cancer center, oncologists, radiation services, family medicine, pediatric and specialty care physicians, OB/GYN services, women’s medical imaging, lung center, heart center, lab services and a retail pharmacy with a drive-thru, the release states.
Penn Highlands Healthcare already offers diagnostic and treatment services at 611 University Boulevard in State College, and the new hospital and medical office will expand upon that.
Penn Highlands State College will be the health system’s ninth hospital; other locations include Penn Highlands Brookville, Penn Highlands Clearfield, Penn Highlands Connellsville, Penn Highlands DuBois, Penn Highlands Elk, Penn Highlands Huntingdon, Penn Highlands Mon Valley and Penn Highlands Tyrone.
