Downtown State College Waffle Shop closed until further notice after reported fire

A breakfast and brunch institution in downtown State College is closed until further notice after fire responders were dispatched Tuesday night as smoke filled the East College Avenue building.

Firefighters from at least two departments were dispatched by at least 8:40 p.m. Tuesday to The Waffle Shop, 364 E. College Ave. The Centre Region fire marshal and the Centre Region Code Administration were also dispatched.

Smoke could be seen inside the restaurant as emergency vehicles sat in both lanes of East College Avenue, videos posted by Centre County Report on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, showed.

Just before 9 p.m., the fire was marked under control, according to dispatch reports.

In a Facebook post, the Waffle Shop wrote the eatery will be closed until further notice. They also thanked the Penn State students who contacted authorities as well as the Alpha Fire Company and other first reponders.
