Avoid the area: Half marathon in State College area may cause traffic congestion
With a half-marathon planned for Sunday morning in State College, motorists should be cautious around the course.
The Nittany Valley half marathon will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Snider Ag Arena. The 13.1 mile course begins and ends on Penn State’s campus, and goes through the “country side,” along Spring Creek and Houserville, according to the half marathon’s website.
Modifications were made to this year’s course to avoid running in front of the State College Regional Airport.
Most of the course is open to traffic, the website states. On social media, Patton Township encouraged motorists to take alternative routes, as areas like Fox Hollow Road to Hemlock Hill Road, and to Minuteman Lane may become congested until at least 10:30 a.m.
Registration for the race is closed but same day registration will be available at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Ag Arena. The half marathon supports Centre Volunteers in Medicine. For more information, visit www.nittanyvalleyhalfmarathon.com.
