If you’re in the market for a new Centre County home, you could own a piece of State College history for a cool $1 million.

The house at 505 E. Fairmount Ave. was originally built in 1930 by Charles Schlow, the namesake of Schlow Centre Region Library, and is for sale for $1,075,000. It’s the latest feature in our Million Dollar Listing series, highlighting historic and desirable properties on the market in Centre County.

The listing describes the 5,855-square-foot home as “enchanting and a celebration of magnificent masterful architecture and exceptional old-world carpentry.”

Despite nearing 100 years in age, the home is currently on its third owner, according to real estate agent Beth Richards with Kissinger, Bigatel & Brower Realtors.

“It’s just a very special property,” Richards said in a phone call with the Centre Daily Times.

The home has five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. Some unique features include a basketball court that can be converted to a pickleball court, a library, a study and a large dining room.

Richards said the most unique feature is a leaded glass window on the top of the stairs.

“The light reflects down the staircase onto the paintings, and that’s when they know spring is here,” Richards said.

Even though it is across from Penn State, Richards said the location is good if you’re looking for privacy.

“It is tucked behind the East Fairmount Park,” Richards said. “It’s at the end of a dead-end street so it dead ends into the park. So it’s super private.”

The lot size is just over half an acre.

“Enjoy amazing outdoor spaces warranting time to linger-patio with waterfall feature, gazebo, deck draped with Wisteria, firepit, basketball/tennis court and more,” the listing reads.

There is also an additional suite in the basement with separate access.

“[It has] a bedroom … and a bathroom there, so somebody could Airbnb,” Richards said.

The home also has a two-car garage.
