State College Food Bank reaches capital campaign goal. ‘Your support is transforming lives’

The State College Food Bank recently reached its $3 million capital campaign goal, allowing the nonprofit to remain mortgage-free in its new, larger facility in College Township.

The capital campaign, “Fighting Hunger. Feeding Community. Building Hope” was launched to expand the food bank’s capacity to combat food insecurity in Centre County, according to a press release. The food bank opened in the new location at 169 Gerald St. in April. It includes a larger free grocery store style food pantry, loading dock, dry storage and more.

Funds raised through the capital campaign helped cover the costs of renovating and equipping the new facility.

“Last week, State College Food Bank celebrated this milestone with a heartfelt Donor Appreciation Event, expressing our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to our campaign,” Allayn Beck, executive director, stated in the press release. “Your support is transforming lives and building a stronger, more hopeful community.”

Beck also thanked The Hamer Foundation and The Ed & Charlene Friedman Charitable Foundation for “their extraordinary generosity, commitment, and for wrapping up our campaign.”

To celebrate and to allow the community to see the new space, the food bank will hold a community open house from noon-5 p.m. June 18. For more information, visit www.scfoodbank.org.
