Part of Interstate 99 in Centre County was closed for hours Friday evening after multiple car crashes.

I-99 northbound closed around 6:10 p.m. Friday between Exit 76 (Shiloh Road) and Exit 78A (PA 150 South) after a multi-vehicle crash, according to 511PA. All lanes were closed and at least one medical helicopter was called to the area, according to dispatch reports.

All lanes were back open at about 11:30 p.m., according to PennDOT.

Another crash on I-99 occurred southbound between Exit 78A and Exit 73, where there was a lane restriction, according to PennDOT.

The Centre County Emergency Alerts and Information Facebook page posted that multiple car crashes happened in the area. They urged people to avoid the area.

511PA also showed a vehicle fire on I-99 near the Shiloh Road exit. Lanes were back open after that incident by 7 p.m.
