$3.4 million renovation to temporarily close Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg
The Pennsylvania Military Museum will be closed for more than a year beginning next month as it undergoes a $3.4 million renovation.
A major capital project is planned for the museum in Boalsburg to “modernize the museum’s infrastructure, ensuring the preservation of its invaluable collection and enhancing visitor experience,” the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission said in a release.
The museum will temporarily close beginning Dec. 8 for about 14 months.
The project will include completely renovating and upgrading all of the doors, windows, and heating and ventilation systems, as well as installing advanced artifact preservation controls and adding a geothermal energy system.
While the museum is closed, all of its archives and collections will be moved to a secure storage off site.
Although the museum will be closed, the theater will be available on a limited basis for programming. And the museum grounds will still be fully accessible to the public. It’s often used for outdoor activities, school programs and community events (including the Boalsburg Farmers Market).
Updates on the project will be posted on the museum website and on its Facebook and Instagram pages.
The state-owned museum was established in 1968 and is dedicated to the military history of Pennsylvania.
